Trump threatened the EU with high tariffs over the idea of Canada’s associate membership
U.S. President Donald Trump said that the U.S. may stop trading with Europe in certain areas if the European Union grants Canada associate member status. He called the idea «ridiculous», and a possible rapprochement between the EU and Canada a «hostile act», and promised very high tariffs against Europe.
