France seeks to lift EU sanctions on Usmanov in exchange for the release of citizens in Azerbaijan
France is seeking from European Union countries the lifting of sanctions on Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov in exchange for the release of several French citizens who are imprisoned in Azerbaijan. Because of this dispute, EU ambassadors on Monday agreed only to a one-week postponement and extended sanctions against nearly 3,000 individuals and legal entities until September 22.
