Molen assessed the Russian army’s advance at 650 sq. km since the start of the year — 80% less than Putin’s claims
OSINT analyst Clément Molen estimated that since the start of 2026, Russian forces have taken control of about 650 sq. km of Ukrainian territory. That is roughly 80% less than Vladimir Putin publicly claimed; separately, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes about a rise in the number of AI videos that Russian military personnel use to imitate the capture of populated areas.
