On the first day of voting, «Important Stories» counted about 4,500 precincts across Russia where ballots were processed at an anomalously fast rate. According to the publication’s calculations, the largest number of such precincts was in Chechnya.
CEC Chair Ella Pamfilova said that the day before, on September 16, the Central Election Commission of Russia had prevented an attempt to discredit the GAS «Elections» and the remote electronic voting system. According to her, it was a «large-scale cyber aggression», but she did not specify who exactly was behind it or what exactly happened.

The Moscow court granted businessman Oleg Deripaska’s lawsuit against the journalists of Vazhnyye Istorii and Verstka after their joint investigation. The proceedings were held entirely behind closed doors at Deripaska’s request, and the journalists intend to appeal the decision.
