EU ministers are discussing the idea of temporarily suspending the submission of asylum applications in emergency situations. The initiative has already been supported by the ministers of Germany and Austria, and the trigger was the July influx of more than 70,000 migrants into Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in North Africa.
Poland has called on the European Union to allow member states to temporarily suspend the processing of asylum applications during «instrumentalized» mass migration. Warsaw itself has not registered requests from migrants arriving from Belarus since March 2025 and calls the measure temporary and emergency, although it has been in effect for 18 months.

The prosecutor’s office in Spain’s Ceuta, an enclave of Spain in North Africa, reported 23 cases of sexual violence, including nine incidents against children, recorded after the mass border crossing from Morocco at the end of July. Ceuta’s chief prosecutor, Silvia Rojas, said this is almost one case a day.
