On the Kuril island of Paramushir, the Chikurachki volcano spewed ash up to 3 kilometers above sea level on the morning of September 21, the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Group (KVERT) of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported. The volcano has been assigned an orange aviation hazard code; the ash plume stretched 140 kilometers to the northeast and east.
