How the Russian people adapted to the war in Ukraine. Dmitry Glukhovsky’s new novel «Registration» is about the fact that there are no innocents

Glukhovsky posted his new novel online for free — as he explained, for those who cannot afford to buy the book. Given that in Russia the books of the writer-«foreign agent» are banned, such readers there now make up the majority.

«Their job is to motivate the new slave.» Why people join network marketing in 2026

Multi-level marketing has been known in Russia since the early 1990s, when major international players like Herbalife entered the market. In the early 2000s, local equivalents emerged. The Novosibirsk-based NL stands out from competitors due to its significant reputation: some employees say they encountered aggression and manipulation, while others say this is the only company where they found understanding and a source of income. To understand this phenomenon, a Most journalist tried to infiltrate the NL sellers’ community.

Russia Needs Women’s Politics. For Now, Patriarchy Reigns Instead

There are women in the country ready to change politics and society. But mostly, only those who do not challenge the system make it into power. Dissenters are pushed out of politics or subjected to repression.

«Anyone who consciously chooses not to have children is a deserter.» How the Ceaușescu regime lost the war on abortion

In late December 1989, after a series of chance events, Nicolae Ceaușescu’s dictatorship in Romania collapsed within days. Over a quarter-century in power, he ruined the lives of hundreds of thousands. The Ceaușescu regime enforced an absurd cult of personality, brutally suppressed any dissent, and plunged the country into a poverty so dire it stood out even among socialist states. Throughout most of his rule, the so-called «Genius of the Carpathians» waged a ruthless campaign against abortion. What were the consequences for Romania and its people?

What the State Department Is Now Silent About

The Trump administration is revising its approach to human rights assessments, excluding mentions of abuses in countries it does not wish to criticize excessively from its annual reports. Thus, in Russia, persecution of LGBT people and violence against women are no longer mandatory topics for coverage.

Leaving behind a comfortable life in her native Krasnoyarsk, Krynyina, together with other Russian women living in Ukraine, founded the movement «Our Way Out» – and now helps relatives of Russian prisoners of war locate them in Ukrainian captivity. The incredible story of Artemisia Gentileschi. How a 17th-century Italian female painter took revenge on the men who insulted her

A retrospective of Artemisia Gentileschi at the Jacquemart-André Museum — the main Paris exhibition of the current season. The curators tried not to linger too much on the scandalous details of their heroine’s biography, which are now well known, but rather to take a closer look at her art. However, without the story of the rape of 17-year-old Gentileschi, it is hardly possible to penetrate her artistic world. The mission was made impossible by the artist herself: her art is the answer to her own biography. How else to explain the anger and rage that guided her brush, and the very choice of subjects in which the woman always dominates the man or avenges her sullied honor?‍
