On the morning of October 3, a yellow air alert was declared in Lithuania’s Vilnius County because of an unidentified flying object that was presumably a drone. Later, the alert was canceled, and the authorities reported that the object had come from Belarus and had not yet been identified.
Lithuania has banned Russian billionaires Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman from entering the country for five years after the EU did not extend the restrictions against them. Both have been added to the national list of undesirable persons, and the ban took effect on September 25.

Lithuania, together with Poland, is preparing an international evacuation plan for part of the residents of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia in the event of possible external aggression. The piece was a reaction to the Lithuanian parliament’s decision on Tuesday to lift the ban on deploying nuclear weapons in the country.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the CIA warned the governments of European countries about a possible drone operation against one of the countries of Southern Europe — Spain, France, or Italy. The publication says that Russia could use Gerbera drones hidden in cargo containers on merchant ships in the Mediterranean Sea for this purpose.
Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia asked the European Commission for €500 million for drone defense. The defense ministers of the three countries sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and are waiting for a response in the coming weeks; in Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn, they hope to receive the money by the end of the year.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said on September 23 that no EU country, including Lithuania, can take part in the agreement with the US being discussed on the supply of Belarusian fertilizers. The Seimas of Lithuania approved in the first vote an amendment to the Constitution that lifts the ban on the deployment on the country’s territory of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, and military bases of foreign states. Ninety-nine deputies voted in favor, 13 against, and five abstained; two more votes are needed for final adoption, and the amendment must receive at least 94 votes out of 141.

Lithuanian border guards returned to the Kaliningrad region a Russian citizen who swam along the Nemunas from the region into Lithuania and asked for political asylum. The man was detained on September 17 at around 13:50 on the riverbank in Lithuania’s Pagėgiai municipality, and then sent back through the Panemunė checkpoint.
