European Commission proposed a 15-year probation period for new EU members
On October 6, the European Commission proposed introducing a 15-year probation period for new EU members, during which a country could be stripped of voting rights or access to funds from the EU budget for violating basic democratic values. The EC presented the five-step package after a meeting in Strasbourg, France.
