On the morning of October 3, a yellow air alert was declared in Lithuania’s Vilnius County because of an unidentified flying object that was presumably a drone. Later, the alert was canceled, and the authorities reported that the object had come from Belarus and had not yet been identified.

Lithuania, together with Poland, is preparing an international evacuation plan for part of the residents of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia in the event of possible external aggression. The history of the formation of the Cossacks in the territories of modern Ukraine and Russia had common features and causes. But there was also one fundamental difference. While in Russia the Cossacks are considered a separate, specific part of the Russian people (although some Cossacks categorically define themselves as a separate ethnic group), in Ukraine they are an integral and, without quotation marks, state-forming part of the Ukrainian nation. So the words of the anthem, «І покажем, що ми, браття, козацького роду» («And we will show that we, brothers, are of the Cossack lineage»), are not just a beautiful metaphor.

The idea goes that the Baltic peoples chose their own fate: they signed the treaties, let the Red Army in, and voted for pro-Soviet candidates in elections.
