The Nevsky District Court of Saint Petersburg sentenced animator and creator of «Masyanya» Oleg Kuvayev in absentia to four years and one month in prison. He was charged under articles on failing to fulfill the duties of a «foreign agent» and on calls for activity aimed against state security.

The Russian Ministry of Justice updated the register of «foreign agents»: Ekaterina Mereminskaya, Elena Matveeva, Rinat Mukhametov, the Telegram channel «Channel of the Visionary», and the project «Perm-36» were added to it. Historian and blogger Yevgeny Ponasenkov was also removed from the list.

The Russian Ministry of Justice has added Novaya Gazeta to the registry of «foreign agents». The same list also includes publicist Sergei Leibgard, former editor-in-chief of the publishing house Individuum Felix Sandalov, professor Tatyana Tatarinova, and the magazine Historical Expertise.

Foreign agents, extremists, individuals cooperating with «undesirable organizations,» and other types of «enemies of the people.» In Russia, these labels are imposed weekly on writers, poets, journalists, scientists, civil activists, human rights defenders, and simply people with a conscience—along with criminal and administrative cases, inclusion in various lists, and outrageous legislative demands. Some call these statuses a «recognition of merit» and a special title to be proud of. I will try to explain why this is not the case.
