Bloomberg: prices of 10 agricultural commodities rose by 13.1% in Q3

Problems with transporting agricultural products via the Black Sea have so far not led to a food crisis on the scale of spring 2022, but they have already caused the fastest price increase since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Bloomberg Agriculture Spot Index rose by 13.1% in Q3 and reached its highest level since Q1 2022, when it gained 19.5%.

Saving Private Wildberries. Why the state is in no hurry to help Russia’s largest marketplace

Desperate pleas from Wildberries owners and sellers to the government are provoking a sluggish and chaotic response. And it seems the issue is not just a banal lack of money.

Crying entrepreneurs as a symbol of Russian capitalism. What the strikes on Wildberries warehouses showed

After a series of massive strikes on Wildberries warehouses, hundreds of amateur videos with the same content appeared on social media: sellers, in tears, talk about multimillion losses and complain that the state offers them no help, while the marketplace’s payouts are incomparable to the damage suffered. In early July, Wildberries introduced a new version of its offer, recognizing drone attacks as force majeure — and is now no longer obliged to compensate sellers for losses. Economist Nikolai Kulbaka is convinced: all this is not the fault of one specific company, but a systemic pattern of modern Russian capitalism.

News Without Readers. Why Media Are Losing Audiences Worldwide and How This Is Happening in Russia

In 2025, Russian internet resources in the «News and Media» category lost up to 15% of their views and visitors in Yandex and Google. According to Kokoc Performance, organic traffic in the first half of 2025 fell by an average of 30% (in some cases — by up to 60%). This reflects a global trend: people are tired of bad news and simply unable to process the huge volume of incoming information.

Russian Security Forces Begin Unprecedented Internet Blockades. Will This Lead to Mass Protests?

Russian authorities have been restricting internet freedom for years. But recently, these restrictions have reached unprecedented levels and even surpassed China’s Great Firewall. The blockades are undermining the economy and sparking protests, yet the FSB, which now oversees control of the Russian internet, is not backing down.

Popular Science in Russia and the West: Two Markets, Two Logics, Two Survival Modes

According to the most optimistic estimates, the total audience of popular science publications in Russia is only about 6 million people. That’s roughly 4% of the population. And this market in Russia today, it seems, is experiencing a crisis.

The Battle for the Last Mile. Russian Authorities Take Control of the Postal Services Market Using the Same Model as the Internet

There should be only one entry point for consumers — Russian Post. All private marketplaces will also have to operate through it, and, according to the government's logic, they'll even have to pay for the privilege.

Are Blue-Collar Jobs More Practical Than White-Collar? Why the Number of University Applicants in Russia Is Falling

The sharp drop in university admissions last year is easy to explain by government policy, where «loyalty is valued over intelligence.» But the reasons for the crisis in higher education run much deeper.

Every Fifth Job Opening Is in Sales. How the Labor Market Turns a Person into Sisyphus

Somewhere in a beautiful society of the future, which we will never see, the profession of sales manager will be classified as highly toxic, psychologically traumatic, and requiring rehabilitation after dismissal. Rehabs will open for former salespeople, and corporations will be required to pay them compensation for years spent in open-space offices where they were told: «If you didn't meet your KPI, you don't deserve love, lunch, health, or a roof over your head.»

Personal Experience: A Punk Girl Goes to Work as a Realtor in St. Petersburg

I wandered through neighborhoods of new developments, trying to at least convince myself that selling such a future to living, thinking people, with a 30-year mortgage, wasn’t a crime. I honestly tried to break myself and become a successful person against my own nature. Here’s how it went—and here’s how it ended.

The End of Illusions. In the very first days of the new year, the Kremlin suffered a series of painful blows from the US

First came the nighttime abduction of the friendly Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, then the boarding of two «shadow» tankers in the Atlantic, and now the announcement of «bone-crushing» sanctions that Congress had postponed all of last year. It seems incredible that less than two weeks ago, pro-government media in Russia were seriously anticipating a rapprochement between Moscow and Washington and predicting diplomatic isolation for Kyiv. The «spirit of Anchorage,» which Kremlin propaganda so eagerly inhaled last autumn, has completely dissipated by winter.

Too Golden «Orda»

A «mask show» took place at the editorial office of Kazakhstan's largest independent media outlet, Orda.kz—just like in Russia in the 2000s. Let's figure out what happened: was it a private case of a «business conflict,» or a systematic attack on freedom of speech?

«I think it will only get worse.» Mikhail Krutikhin on the situation in Russia’s fuel market

August is always a tense month for the fuel market in Russia. Some refineries go into scheduled maintenance, farmers buy fuel for the harvest, and ordinary citizens head to their summer homes. But this year, fuel is not just rising in price – it’s disappearing across the country. Queues, coupons, limits on sales per person… What’s going on, and what do Ukrainian drones have to do with it? We discussed this with oil and gas analyst Mikhail Krutikhin, partner at the information and consulting agency «RusEnergy.»
